UPCOMING LIVE C.E. PROGRAM

Beyond the Dementia Behaviors – What Actually Works: International Evidence From Thousands of Care Organizations in Asia, America and Europe

DATE: Thursday, December 3, 2026
Noon – 1 p.m. CST

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This session covers techniques that actually reduce neuropsychiatric symptoms such as care resistance and aggression, and their consequences. Leaders will see real before/after data from multi-country implementations, understand why “read the resident’s needs” has unwillingly disempowered staff instead of helping them, and be introduced to the shift the whole day is built on: from subjective, unmeasurable care philosophy to skills-based, observable, teachable techniques.

Join this free webinar to:

  • Identify evidence-based techniques shown to reduce neuropsychiatric symptoms, including care resistance and aggression, in people living with dementia.
  • Evaluate before-and-after outcomes from international care organization implementations to understand the effectiveness of these techniques.

  • Explain how shifting from subjective care philosophies to observable, teachable, skills-based techniques can better equip staff to respond to dementia-related behaviors.

João Pärtel Araújo is Clinical Vice President at Arvo and a gerontogeriatric nursing professional with two decades of experience spanning clinical practice, management, teaching, and research. His expertise includes dementia care, person-centered and relationship-centered care, and care quality management, which he also teaches in postgraduate programs.

João has implemented the Humanitude care methodology across the United States, Portugal, Spain, France, Singapore, South Korea, Japan, and Chile. His work focuses on practical, evidence-based approaches to improving dementia care, reducing care resistance, and strengthening care team skills.

He has contributed to research and publications in the field and helped revise national legislation, establish the geriatric nursing specialty, and integrate geriatric nursing into nursing and medical curricula in Portugal. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Nursing at the University of Coimbra, with research focused on care refusal among older adults with cognitive impairment.

At Arvo, João is advancing AI-based role-play training to help care professionals practice challenging interactions and strengthen their skills before applying them in real-world care situations.
