Medication Regimen Review: Information Sheet for Assisted Living

According to a recent study, long-term care residents in regions of the country with higher prescribing rates for fracture-associated drugs had more hip fractures.  In fact, residents in areas with the highest intensity prescribing of these medications actually had a 14% higher risk of this injury.

These findings suggest the critical importance of managing medications. The promising news is that many drug-related issues can be prevented by pharmacist-conducted Medication Regimen Reviews (MRR).   While improving clinical outcomes and quality of life are the larger goals of the MRR process, this approach helps identify and prevent adverse drug events or injuries.
